Economic empowerment

Within this area of work, we conceptualise a broader notion of economic empowerment that comprises both the market economy where women participate in the labour market, and the care economy which sustains and nurtures the market economy. Our work focuses on ensuring that women’s economic empowerment is optimal, sustainable and that it leads to shared benefits across generations. The workstream focuses in on two strands of work:

  • examining the barriers to women’s economic participation (within and outside the labour market), and
  • how these barriers can be overcome through policy and programmatic interventions.
